Playgrounds Change Lives!
Last month we installed see-saws, swings, slides and roundabouts in the playgrounds for the students at Isabella Primary school, TC Kampong Seila Primary School, and Kouk Doung Primary School in the TCS School Program. These schools are sponsored and supported by TCS & Starquest Expeditions (a private jet expedition travel company) and by The First Days of School Foundation (a US education foundation founded by Rosemary and Harry Wong).
Because of the new playground, many more students have come to study regularly, and their test results have improved significantly.
Parents are also very happy with their children's newfound commitment to school.
These schools are located far from our original Sustainable Cambodia schools, in other provinces, and we had not had much success getting parents to come to school with their children in these areas. But now, after the playground equipment has been installed, parents have been bringing their children to school in person and picking them up after school. The playground has added a new family dimension to the education experience, which is helpful in many ways.
"My name is Suon Sovithean, the school principal at TC Kampong Seila Primary School. On behalf of the teachers and students here, I would like to express my deepest thanks to all TCS School Program supporters for supporting our school so far. With your school lunch support, our students are more inspired to come to school. And, especially, your recent support of the new playground has motivated both inactive and active students to come to school regularly."
Sophy, a student in grade 4 at TC Kampong Seila Primary School, told us, "Hello, my name is Sophy. I am very happy with my new playground, especially the swings. Now I really love coming to school every day to study and have fun with my friends. Before, some of my friends were absent a lot, but since we have the new playground, they all come to study every day! Thank you, everyone!"
